Roughly 30% of adults report experiencing some form of insomnia symptoms and chronic insomnia affects approximately 10% of adults.

Clinical guidelines recommend CBT as the first line treatment but there aren't enough therapists to treat that many people.

Enter Sleepio, the worlds first digital therapeutic for insomnia, a digital programme scientifically proven to help people overcome poor sleep.

At the centre of Sleepio are a number of tools to help record and track your sleep, plus Sleepio’s secret weapon: The Prof and his narcoleptic dog; Pavlov. Through a series of animated episodes TheProf teaches you Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia, as written by (real professor) Prof. Colin Espie Professor of Sleep Medicine at University of Oxford.

The animation is intended as a way of keeping the user engaged and presenting clinical concepts in understandable, everyday language, something we referred to as: Entertainment as medicine.

Around the Product we built a brand that follows the "Design for the sleepy mind" methodology and talks to uses in simple, every day language. It needs to stand out in a world of employer health benefits so Sleepio appears as bold, friendly and unlike anything else on the market. The illustration-forward brand sets itself apart from the stock photography of other health brands and hints at the animated experience to come.

Sleepio has been prove successful in gold-standard clinical trials, 76% of Sleepio patients experienced clinically significant improvement in insomnia, as well as:

– 54% reduction in time to fall asleep
– 62% less time awake at night
– 45% better functioning the next day.

Sleepio is the first Digital Therapeutic to be awarded a recommendation from NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) as an effective alternative to sleeping pills.

In the States, a health economic evaluation with IBM Watson Health and a Fortune 500 employer demonstrated that Sleepio was shown to lower health care costs by $1,677 per employee.
